My Neighbor’s Closet

My Neighbor’s Closet is a place in the Plattsmouth community where residents can get basic needs at a low price, with profits from the sales used to help those in need.

The thrift shop was the brainchild of the late Rev. Fr. York, a former Church of the Holy Spirit pastor, and became a reality on November 6, 1989 when it opened its doors to the community.

Don’t miss out on new deals and special offers each month.

The shop was originally located in a convent on North Fourth Street east of the parish house. Shortly thereafter, it was moved into two trailers beside Church of the Holy Spirit in Plattsmouth.

Proceeds from the shop help people with utilities, food and gasoline to get them to medical appointments. Funds are also donated to charities such as Women’s Touch, Plattsmouth Food Bank, Backpack Program, Head Start, Plattsmouth High School, Birthright, Gianna House in Omaha and Bethlehem House. Help is also always extended to victims of disasters such as fire and flood.

Nadine Carlson is the director of My Neighbor’s Closet and supervises a volunteer staff. Nadine represents the shop on the Southeast Nebraska Community Action Board of Directors and Under His Wings Foundation Board of Directors, both dedicated to eradicating poverty.

Anyone needing help should contact Church of the Holy Spirit rectory at 402-296-3139 to make an appointment. Donations to the shop can be dropped at the church office during regular business hours.
