Church of the Holy Spirit Celebrates Feast Day of St. Francis Assisi with Blessing of Pets
Every year, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, is celebrated by Catholics on October 4.
To coincide with this day, Church of the Holy Spirit celebrated the day with its annual “Blessing of Pets” in the garden of St. John the Baptist Catholic school. One by one, animals of all sizes, big and small, were welcomed and received a blessing.
“Our parish families and school children are invited to bring their pets to receive a blessing as a reminder that all of God’s creatures are a part of his creation,” explained Father Michael Houilihan.

Do Small Things with Great Love
St. John’s students, teachers and parents are embracing the start of a new school year with a new motto.
“Do small things with great LOVE.”
—Blessed Mother Teresa (St. Teresa of Calcutta)
For Mother Teresa, these were more than words. This was a way of life. Just as Mother Teresa, we can serve God and live our lives by showing others great love. Simple gestures — whether it be a smile, a word of encouragement, a random act of kindness or a sacrifice — can have the most meaningful and biggest impact on others.
This school year, let’s focus on making this a practice in our own daily lives — and teach our children to do the same. Together, we will make a difference.
